Martin Butler

With nearly 20 years’ experience in optics, Martin is one of our most experienced optometrist’s based in our Edinburgh Haymarket clinic.

Graduating from Glasgow Caledonian University, Martin worked for 14 years filling various positions including senior optometrist, practice manager and regional clinical roles. Martin joined Optical Express in 2018, as he wanted to expand his knowledge and specialise in the refractive surgery pathway.

He also spent time in Zambia educating ophthalmic nurses in refraction to enable them to provide long term ophthalmic services locally.

Martin took advantage of the opportunity to complete an Independent Prescribing (IP) course in 2021 fully funded by Optical Express, allowing him to expand his skill-set even further and better support his patients. The IP qualification enables him to manage many eye conditions at community level without the need to refer patients to an eye Doctor at a hospital.

Martin is also part of our Surgery Support team, where he assists our Ophthalmic Surgeons by preparing patients for their laser eye, cataract and lens replacement surgery procedures.
