In addition to the free children's prescription lenses funded by the NHS, Optical Express has free designer frames for children up to the age of 16. Kids and parents will love the selection on offer, including Disney Princess, BMX, Marvel Heroes, Spiderman and No Fear. No matter their age, your little one is sure to wear their glasses with pride and enjoy great vision in the classroom, playground and at home.
Vision plays a huge part in children's lives. At Optical Express, we take your child's eye health seriously. We encourage all children to attend annual eye examinations, where our experts can identify any issues and put measures in place to rectify them. If your child requires glasses, we'll offer guidance on the best type of frame to help with comfort and confidence. We also recommend durable polycarbonate lenses for children, which provide strength and safety for these very active glasses wearers. Our expert optometrists and dispensing opticians will advise on the best shape and fit for younger patients.
Three different materials are used for lenses: plastic, glass and polycarbonate. All three are available for every prescription, whether you require single vision, bifocal or varifocal lenses.
Our plastic lenses are the lightest and most popular option, although polycarbonate lenses are the best solution for children and active adults. Glass lenses have the slimmest and sleekest appearance and can be an excellent option for many frames.
Polaroid lenses are high performance lenses which block out virtually all horizontal glare, allowing wearers to see colours more clearly. Scratch resistant and absorption layers are included, helping to improve durability and the longevity of your glasses. Maximum sun protection is also provided, blocking out 100% of UVA, UVB and UVC rays.
Transitions lenses adapt quickly to varying light conditions. The greater the intensity of UV rays, the darker the lenses become. When UV light is no longer present (for example, when moving indoors), Transitions lenses fade back to their original state, so you'll no longer require several pairs of glasses for different circumstances – and 100% UV protection is included.
DriveWear lenses combine the technology of Transitions and Polaroid lenses, providing maximum protection and clarity, particularly for drivers. Whether you are experiencing overcast weather, darkness or bright lights, DriveWear lenses will adapt accordingly and give you the best possible vision.
