Kind colleagues at Optical Express recently donned their aprons for a bake sale, all in the name of giving something back.
Every month, Optical Express colleagues at 200 St Vincent Street in Glasgow and head office in Cumbernauld are welcome to nominate a charity of their choice for a day's fundraising activity, which includes making a donation to 'dress-down' in casual clothes rather than business attire.
This month it was the turn of Internal Communications Manager Lesley Temple, who nominated a charity that she and her family were personally touched by, Alzheimer Scotland.
Alzheimer Scotland is a charity close to Lesley and her family's heart.
"My mum suffered from Alzheimer's for 14 years, until she passed away in 2018. We watched her deteriorate over a long period, including her 10 years in a residential home. It was distressing at times, but the care she received was exceptional," Lesley explains.
Lesley and her family used the Alzheimer Scotland website in the early days of her mother's diagnosis to access post-diagnosis support and resources to help them as they learned how to care for someone with dementia, which comes with a host of challenges.
"My colleagues at Optical Express are incredibly supportive and I'm delighted that we have raised such an amazing amount for Alzheimer's in memory of my mum. It's because that's so special to us" Lesley added.
The day was supported by Optical Express colleagues who paid to 'dress down', including members of the Recruitment Team (above).
The charity supports research across Scotland to improve the lives of people with dementia both now and in the future, as well as offering resources and other means of assistance to those who suffer from the condition and their families.
