Jo Stevens MP opens new state of the art Optical Express eye clinic in Cardiff

Jo Stevens MP has officially opened the new Optical Express eye clinic in Cardiff which offers life-changing vision correction consultations for patients. The clinic brings the latest eye care technology to Cardiff and will offer patients in Wales improved access to vision correction and cataract treatment.

Optical Express have invested over £3 million in the new facility – bringing the latest generation of advanced eye care technology to the city. As the UK’s leading private provider of laser eye surgery, lens replacement and private cataract treatment, Optical Express’s new clinic will offer high quality eye care for local residents and those in the surrounding area.

The Cardiff clinic will offer complimentary vision correction surgery consultations and in addition to treating private patients, it is anticipated that the new clinic will treat patients on NHS waiting lists as well. The clinic has the capacity to significantly reduce NHS eye care waiting times in Cardiff, particularly for those in need of cataract surgery. Cataracts worsen over time and can cause blindness without proper care, meaning timely treatment is vital. Untreated cataracts can also increase the likelihood of having a serious trip or fall, in addition to having a detrimental impact on a patient’s mental health. Statistics show that 1 in 3 adults over the age of 65 suffer a fall every year, rising to 1 in 2 over the age of 801.

The new clinic will also create new highly skilled, specialist jobs in the area as the company recruits new members to join its expert clinical team.

Jo Stevens, MP for Cardiff Central, said:

“This is a very impressive facility right in the heart of the city centre, making it easily accessible to people right across South Wales. The increased capacity it creates for treatment will make an important contribution to reducing waiting times for ophthalmic procedures and many of my constituents in Cardiff Central will benefit.”

Optical Express CEO and Founder, David Moulsdale, said:

“We are delighted to open our new treatment clinic in Cardiff. By opening our latest clinic here, we’re working towards our goal to improve the quality, and the reach of ophthalmology and primary eye care across the UK. We are keen to work in partnership with NHS Wales, to reduce the backlog of those thousands of patients waiting to receive ophthalmic care. I am very happy to see the hard work and enthusiasm of our colleagues at Optical Express, which have made this clinic’s opening such a success. I’m looking forward to seeing how our team’s expertise can really make an impact throughout the Welsh community.”

As at all Optical Express clinics, staff at Cardiff’s new state of the art facility will encourage patients to consider the importance of sustainability in their eye care decisions, providing alternative, more sustainable vision correction solutions as well as recycling stations for single-use plastic contact lenses, glasses and their packaging.

Optical Express aims for NHS patients to be treated at the new Cardiff clinic in the near future. NHS patients would be treated at the clinic by expert surgeons from community eye care provider ACES. ACES has a track record of providing high-quality eye care services for NHS patients in England. Through a strategic partnership with Optical Express, ACES aims to expand its cataract surgery offering to NHS patients in Cardiff and throughout the UK.
