Optical Express have invested over £3 million in the new facility – bringing the latest generation of advanced eye care technology to the city. As the UK’s leading private provider of laser eye surgery, lens replacement and private cataract treatment, Optical Express’s new clinic will offer high quality eye care for local residents and those in the surrounding area.
The Cardiff clinic will offer complimentary vision correction surgery consultations and in addition to treating private patients, it is anticipated that the new clinic will treat patients on NHS waiting lists as well. The clinic has the capacity to significantly reduce NHS eye care waiting times in Cardiff, particularly for those in need of cataract surgery. Cataracts worsen over time and can cause blindness without proper care, meaning timely treatment is vital. Untreated cataracts can also increase the likelihood of having a serious trip or fall, in addition to having a detrimental impact on a patient’s mental health. Statistics show that 1 in 3 adults over the age of 65 suffer a fall every year, rising to 1 in 2 over the age of 801.
The new clinic will also create new highly skilled, specialist jobs in the area as the company recruits new members to join its expert clinical team.

Optical Express aims for NHS patients to be treated at the new Cardiff clinic in the near future. NHS patients would be treated at the clinic by expert surgeons from community eye care provider ACES. ACES has a track record of providing high-quality eye care services for NHS patients in England. Through a strategic partnership with Optical Express, ACES aims to expand its cataract surgery offering to NHS patients in Cardiff and throughout the UK.
