Following huge demand, the St Nicholas street clinic in Newcastle has had its ophthalmic services upgraded, with new diagnostic and treatment technologies to add to its laser eye facilities.
The clinic which opened in 2014 and has helped over 2,500 people, has added lens replacement, lens enhancement and cataract surgery to its list of procedures.
The investment comes as more people increasingly seek treatments to help correct their vision. Until recently patients who required lens procedures such as cataract treatment were travelling from Newcastle to Glasgow or Manchester for surgery.
Stephen Hannan, clinical services director at Optical Express, said “Over six out of every 10 corrective eye surgery patients are treated at Optical Express.
“The new facilities expand our current offering in the North East, enabling us to provide additional optical solutions to those suffering with eye care problems and meet the current demand for IOL (intralocular lens) surgery in the region.”
