Part of our mission here at Optical Express is to continually invest in the next generation of optometrists. So when Blair, one of the Optometry students at our St. Enoch clinic asked us to get involved in Glasgow Caledonian University’s annual Eye Ball, we promptly got rolling. This year’s Eye Ball, hosted by GCU’s Optics Society, proudly raised money for the Scottish War Blinded and Reverse Rett charities. Optical Express was happy to donate gift vouchers to be offered as prizes for the event’s raffle, which helped the Optics Society raise over £1300 in one night.
The Scottish War Blinded provides free support to ex-service men and women through services like rehabilitation and training to adapt to sight loss, home modifications, grants to assist with independent living, and assistance with sports and social activities. The charity helps thousands of veterans each year to re-learn vital life skills, find a sense of community, and receive valuable support and advice.
The Optics Society’s second charitable cause is Reverse Rett. They work to fund research and build connections between scientists, doctors, and people affected by Rett who understand what living with the condition is really like. The charity raises funds for research into treatments and a cure, and hopes to continue forward momentum for their cause.
We’re proud to help support charitable causes, especially when they’re championed by the next generation of optometrists. You can find out more about the Scottish War Blinded and Reverse Rett by visiting their websites.
