Glasgow Care Foundation has been helping to overcome poverty in Glasgow for over 140 years. Its motto is 'A helping hand, not a hand out' and the charity helps families and individuals who can't get support from any other agency.
The Foundation helps to provide basic household goods, as well as supporting local community projects, holidays for families and the distribution of toys and food vouchers at Christmas. It doesn't receive any funding from local or national government, and demand for its help is every-increasing.
Optical Express colleagues at Head Office in Cumbernauld and at St Vincent Street in Glasgow donated £1 each to dress down in casual clothes on Friday 1st November, with the funds raised going to the charity.
We were delighted to be able to give a total of £163 to this amazing cause.
Elaine Sergeant of Glasgow Care Foundation said, "At Glasgow Care Foundation, our aim of alleviating poverty in the city is still the same as it was in 1874. We provide assistance to some of the poorest families in the area, who can't get help from any other source.
"We provide essential items such as washing machines, fridges, bedding, cookers and floor coverings. The kindness of everyone at Optical Express and the donation from their fundraising day will make a real difference to the number of families we can help. There are currently 37,000 children living in poverty in Glasgow, so once again thank you to Optical Express for supporting us in our efforts to help those in need."
Thanks to every Optical Express colleague who contributed to this worthy cause.
