It can seem a little daunting at first, but lots of contact lens wearers have been doing it effortlessly for a long time. Read on for some of our top tips on making the process as smooth as possible.
Wash for success
The first thing you'll want to do is make sure your hands are clean. Excellent hygiene is a must when going near your eyes. Wash your hands thoroughly using mild soap and warm water to get rid of any dirt or bacteria that may be lurking there. Finish off by drying your hands with a clean towel.
Check the lens
Next, check the contact lens itself isn't inside out. To do this, position yourself in a well-lit-up room, put the tip of the lens on the tip of your index finger and hold it up to the light. If the edges flare out then it is inside out. It should look like a bowl with straight edges.
After this. check the lens for any tears or dirt. Don't forget to handle the lens gently as they are quite delicate.
All systems go
If starting with your right eye use your right hand to gently hold your upper eyelid with your index finger, this is to stop you from blinking. Carefully pull down your lower eyelid with your other fingers. If starting with your left eye - use your left hand.
