Lens Replacement Surgery September 2021
Growing up by the sea, Megan has always been a keen swimmer but often felt like poor vision was holding her back. Relying on both glasses and contact lenses to correct her eyesight, she found that she was unable to wear them in the water, leaving her feeling uncomfortable and struggling to see. When she also started suffering from irritated eyes as a result of her contact lenses, forcing her to rely solely on glasses for her vision correction, she decided that it was time to make a change and booked in for a free consultation at Optical Express.
“It was when I had to be 100% reliant on the glasses, that’s when I looked at something else really,” she explains. As Megan’s wedding was also rapidly approaching and she feared that her glasses would interfere with her big day, she finally made the life-changing decision to opt for treatment and booked an appointment at our state-of-the-art clinic in Bristol. “I just didn’t want to pay and have all the lovely make-up done and then have to put my glasses on, and then my glasses clash with my dress, it was a nightmare,” she says.
Throughout her journey at Optical Express, Megan has been continuously impressed with the support she received from staff members and her surgeon, Dr Alex George. “We had a really extensive phone conversation about two weeks before. He talked me through everything and he got to know me and I got to know him and his recommendations and expectations of the surgery,” she says. Still feeling slightly nervous when she arrived for her appointment, she was relieved to find that the team at our Bristol clinic did everything in their power to help make her feel at ease: “People offered to hold my hand and stuff, the people were absolutely lovely.”
Megan is ecstatic with her restored vision and has already drawn up an extensive to-do list of things she wants to experience with complete visual freedom. “It’s definitely going skiing again without having to have my glasses underneath my goggles, can’t wait for that one. Going in the sea, that’s one of the first things I’ll do, and then just taking all the time in the world with my make-up, because I can see what I’m doing now,” she comments.
Delighted with the entire process from start to finish, Megan wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Optical Express to her friends and family: “I would trust them to always do the right thing for you. I’ve had to wear glasses since I was five, so waking up this morning and being able to see, it’s crazy. It’s amazing, it’s unreal, I don’t think it’s sunk in really yet. It’s the best thing I’ve ever done, and we’re 22 hours out,” she comments.
